Swimsafe! Do you?

last week we worked with Cecilie to remind ourselves about staying safe near and in water.

Some of the things we covered were:

How to help someone in trouble in the water while also keeping ourself safe.

Throwing things to a person in trouble in the water can help them float, e.g. a lunchbox or bucket.

How to lie down and hold out a long stick to someone in the water.

How to identify rips.

How to ensure you have your life jacket on properly.

Watch the video and listen to the scenarios at the end. What would you do to survive/stay safe?

Anticipation Charts

We are starting a novel study on The Lion , The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Before starting to read it the children need to agree or disagree with statements made.

Have a read of these statements and see whether you would agree or disagree before reading the book.

This is what Iris, Amarni and Riley thought.

improve reading comprehension by activating prior knowledge, stimulating curiosity, and encouraging predictions about the text before reading.

Show Not Tell – readers get bored if you just tell

We have been working on a writing startegy that authors use, “Show Not Tell’. This is when authors describe what could be felt or seen or heard (using the senses) to make the writing more interesting.

Read some of the finished pieces.

My Missing Puppy – by Iris

I screamed! My tears filled my eyes up. I covered my eyes cause I was crying.

All I saw was his paw print on his bowl.

The Birthday – by Emjae

I was so excited today I woke up at 6am in the morning and I was so excited I was was smiling like I was gonna win the lottery. I knew what I wanted for my birthday I went into the kitchen and made myself breakfast And then I went into my parents room sneakily and there was a big box with a tiny hole it was wrapped so I could´t see a black nose came from the box in the little hole…

My Missing Puppy – by Keira

Wait a minute the front door is open. What Should I do? “Can you help me please?”

 “Ok ok.”

“I’m going to the park and you guys go somewhere else ok? Got it guys?

“Yes we do.”

I ran to park. Next I ran to the puppy shop to see if he was looking for a friend. Then I ran to the big Field where sometimes she runs around.

My face was boiling hot. I was paranoid.

Wait a minute we had not looked in the backyard .  “OH MY GOD!” I thought to myself.  I ran home…

Can you write a pargarph for us using ‘Show  Not Tell’?

Thanks, Room 1

What is a prefix?

This week we have been learning about the prefix SUB. We have focused on these words. subway, submarine, submerge, subside, subtitle, subscribe, subtract, substandard.

Sub is the prefix and the rest of the word is called the base word.

Here are some of the activities we did.

THIS IS US PLAYING BINGO WITH OUR SUBWORDS.

This is us writing words with the prefix sub on our little whiteboards (calledMUBs). Then we circled the prefix and underlined the baseword.
