Is Your Tomorrow Going To be Amazing?

After reading our book about Rabbit who looked for his perfect tomorrow and ended up realising it was his today, we wrote our own stories using Book Creator. We used our senses to describe the tomorrow we wanted. What would you want your tomorrow to be like? Can you use your senses to describe it?

What’s on top of the hill?

We read the book about Hound the Detective. He followed clues and came to his very own surprise birthday (Ra Whãnau).

We wrote our own story where a character had to follow a map. We had to use bossy verbs like sprint quickly. We had to describe the objects, ‘Jump over the pointy tree’.

We made our own maps. We had to record using good expression. We had to make sure we didn’t go too slow or two fast.

What did we do well with our work? Have a look.  (Some maps are still getting finsished)

We have been learning:

Rio – words that have -i-e. (split Digraphs)

Mila – the e on the end makes the i sound like the i’s name. i

time (Ari)  bike (Wol-Lee) like (Kingslee) hike (Ava) slime(Anakin).

Do you know how to look after an Ipad?

We made litle movies with Whaea Fi to show you how to care for your ipad. Do you have another way we should care for our Ipads? This is the first time this year we have have recorded our voices. Do we have clear voices?

What does a magic e do?

We were learning that when you have o-e like ope in rope, the magic e on the end makes the letter say its name or the strong vowel sound.  We read a book about voting for the pet that was most liked. Vote is a 0-e word!

Look at our videos where we have used a word with the magic e. Can you tell us what word we used in our video?

How do you write to make people want to read your writing?

Rio’s Writing:

At the beginning it was beautiful until ravenous rats and humans came. The humans chopped down the trees. Kowhai broke into a million pieces when the trees chopped down.

Mila’s Writing

Kowhai is disappointed and she dropped her head. She was not happy the trees were cut down. Trees fell onto the ground.

The “Show, Don’t Tell” strategy is a way of writing that uses clues to help the reader imagine what is happening, instead of just saying it directly.

Think of it like being a detective!

  • Telling is just giving the answer: “He was cold.”

  • Showing gives the clues: “He shivered and zipped up his heavy coat.”

Swimsafe! Do you?

last week we worked with Cecilie to remind ourselves about staying safe near and in water.

Some of the things we covered were:

How to help someone in trouble in the water while also keeping ourself safe.

Throwing things to a person in trouble in the water can help them float, e.g. a lunchbox or bucket.

How to lie down and hold out a long stick to someone in the water.

How to identify rips.

How to ensure you have your life jacket on properly.

Watch the video and listen to the scenarios at the end. What would you do to survive/stay safe?
